CONSULTATIONS

The Association for Art History leads the collective effort in the UK to advance the study and practice of art history. We serve members from within and outside of the UK and represent the interests of art historians, members and non-members alike. We publish the highly respected journal, Art History, a leading international publication in this field.

Below, we have included some recent consultations in which the AAH has participated.

Research Excellence Framework open access 2029

The four UK higher education funding bodies (Department for the Economy Northern Ireland, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, Research England and Scottish Funding Council) opened a consultation in March of 2024 on their proposed guidelines and requirements on Open Access for REF 2029.  The Association for Art History submitted a response to the consultation in June 2024 which focused on the concerns and particular areas of interest of those in our field.

Research Excellence Framework 2028

In June 2023 the four funding bodies (Research England, the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Department for the Economy, Northern Ireland) published their decisions regarding the design of the 2028 Research Excellence Framework (REF) indicating areas in which consultation was sought from those in the HE sector.

Plan S Consultation

Plan S is an initiative for Open Access publishing launched in September 2018. Plan S requires that, from 2020, scientific publications that result from research funded by public grants must be published in compliant Open Access journals or platforms.
