The Association for Art History’s annual Professional Development Days for doctoral, post-doctoral and early career researchers.
About
Join us online for this year’s virtual Professional Development Days. Taking place over two days, these FREE online events offer professional advice, insights, and career support and development for those at PhD, post-doc and early career stage. They are designed for people working within arts, art history, curating, education and other areas of work in arts, culture and heritage sectors.
This event is FREE, open to all and will take place via Zoom. Register via the Eventbrite link above.
Four panels will be held across the two days, with two panels focusing respectively on Social Media and Community Engagement for Day 1, and Working Independently and International Partnerships on Day 2. Each panel will last for one hour, with two invited speakers and a discussion based format where we invite attendees to engage with the topics being discussed. The programme will include a range of different presenters who will talk about their professional experiences and offer advice and guidance, as well as providing a space for honest conversations about some of the challenges faced by arts professionals.
Programme Details
Friday 6 May, 12.00 – 13.00 – Social Media
This panel will discuss ways of building your profile online and explore tools that you can use to promote yourself and your work. We will also have an open discussion about both the usefulness and challenges of using social media.
Friday 6 May, 17.00 – 18.00 – Community Engagement
Community engagement and outreach are often key concepts for projects and funding applications, but what is meant by this and why does it actually matter? With speakers who have found ways to make art history accessible and to work with varying communities, we will explore the potential that art history has to have a real impact for both individuals and communities.
Saturday 7 May, 10.30 – 11.30 – Working Independently
Working freelance is increasingly a career choice chosen by many but knowing where to start and how to succeed presents its own challenges. This panel will explore different ways of working freelance, as well as the opportunities and challenges that come with this.
Saturday 7 May, 12.30 – 13.30 – International Partnerships
How do you integrate working internationally into your practice? Our final panel will explore some of the many opportunities abroad and ways to connect with a global audience, encouraging diversity and embracing cultural differences.
Professional Development Days are organised by the Association’s Doctoral and Early Career Research Committee – DECR. The 2022 event is co-organised by Ivy Chan and Sammi Lukic-Scott.
