Ian Wardropper, Director of the Frick Collection in conversation with Bill Sherman, Warburg Institute Director and Gregory Perry, CEO, Association for Art History.
In the most recent instalment of our Curatorial Conversation series we spoke to Ian Wardropper, Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Director of the Frick Collection, about the New York institution’s substantial renovation and reinstallation of its collections. We heard about the rationale for this major undertaking at the Frick and the various aspects of the renovation, involving new permanent collection and exhibition spaces, expanded facilities for research and conservation, and improved visitor amenities. We discussed historic preservation concerns and the curatorial decisions taken in presenting the Frick’s important Old Masters collections to 21st century audiences.
Curatorial Conversations, in collaboration with the Association for Art History, invites museum directors and curators of recent exhibitions and installations at world-leading museums and galleries to discuss their work. The conversations, led by Bill Sherman and Gregory Perry, discuss the issues of setting the directorial or curatorial agenda and staging meaningful encounters with objects. The series is designed to draw out discussion of the discoveries made, challenges tackled and the lessons learned in heading a collection, presenting important permanent collections and putting together internationally renowned exhibitions.
