Art History Festival | Rethinking Blackness in Western Art

Room 9 | Saturday 25 September 2021 | 3.15-3.45pm

How do Western narratives of art history inform our perception of Blackness? Alayo Akinkugbe will consider this question in relation to the role of Black sitters, artists and the layout of national museums, with the hope of challenging long-existing and outdated concepts.

Alayo Akinkugbe is an undergraduate History of Art student at the University of Cambridge. She founded the Instagram account @ABlackHistoryOfArt.
