AHLU x Courtauld: free ‘Introduction to Art History’ course for students from state schools
Location & Date: The Courtauld Institute, Somerset House, for six Saturday afternoons from 11th June
Art History Link-Up is currently piloting free Introduction to Art History courses for 13-15 year old students from state supported schools at London museums and galleries, generously funded by The Band Trust.
The first pilot was at Dulwich Picture Gallery for six Saturdays from 23rd April, the second pilot is at the Courtauld Institute of Art at Somerset House, London WC2R 1LA, for six Saturdays from 11th June between 1.30-4pm – please apply here, and the third pilot is scheduled to take place at the National Gallery over five mornings, from 25th-29th July.
AHLU’s flagship programme, Art History for Everyone, offers free Art History A level and EPQ courses taught on term-time Saturdays online and in museums and galleries for state students.
Our new Introduction to Art History courses address the need for younger secondary age students, aged 13-15, to find out more about art history and careers in the sector. The short course is intended to give students the opportunities to acquire life-long skills and an awareness of opportunities available in museums and galleries, while having a lot of fun.
Art students will especially love this course, but it’s for anyone who enjoys looking, thinking and discussing – and snacking – while making links across subjects, and linking the past to the present day.
We’re opening application for our Courtauld course – topics we’ll be exploring in the 2.5 hour afternoon session include Extraordinary and Precious Objects, Gender and Art, Curating the Gallery and Shaping Art History.
You will also have the opportunity to make and curate your own gallery, learn about possible careers and future pathways, and of course have a unique opportunity to get to know the Courtauld’s world class collection at first hand.
Interested? Apply here – takes five minutes. And to join AHLU’s mailing list for information about the National Gallery course and other opportunities, or any queries, please email: introduction@arthistorylinkup.org
