Associate Lecturer post at The University of York

The Department of History of Art is one of the largest and most dynamic communities of art historians in the UK, with seventeen research-active colleagues who cover all periods from late antiquity to the present. We teach approximately 180 undergraduate, 40 Masters and 80 PhD students, who follow a broad range of programmes, including our BA in Curating and Art History, supported by a friendly atmosphere, small-group teaching methods, regular study trips, and spectacular historic locations. The Department has initiated a number of innovative partnerships with museums, galleries, and other organisations (including the National Gallery, Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum, York Museums Trust, York Minster, and the Yorkshire Country House Partnership). These are coordinated through the umbrella organisation, York Art History Collaborations (YAHCs).

The Department seeks to appoint a 0.5 Associate Lecturer to assist in the further development of its taught programmes, in particular the integration of skills-orientated modules into the curriculum.

You will have significant teaching experience, with a clear interest in the design and delivery of innovative skills modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will show evidence of successful course planning, design and delivery across a range of modules, with exemplification of teaching materials. You will investigate innovative teaching, learning and assessment methods and techniques in the sector, bringing new insights to the department. You will have strong interest in developing our partnerships and collaborations with external bodies to enhance our students’ experience and employability.

You will have experience of providing students with mentoring and supervision and will be able to supervise student projects, field trips and, where appropriate, placements. You will be able to undertake various administrative responsibilities effectively.
