Association for Art History Curatorial Committee – Call for Members

The Curatorial Committee of the Association for Art History was established in 2019 to support the curatorial field and its practitioners involved in the study, presentation and interpretation of works of art. The committee aims to:

  • Promote and advocate for the value of curatorial work in generating and presenting art historical discourse.
  • Address topics of relevance to curators in ways that are stimulating and helpful.
  • Provide opportunities for networking and the sharing of expertise.
  • Support and strengthen links between curators and educational and other professional communities.

To date, during the pandemic, we have served the curatorial community through digital events which have addressed areas of concern for curators, and we intend to broaden our activities with the addition of new members and with additional support arranged through the Association.

The committee comprises curators from around the UK who provide specialist knowledge of curatorial work and offer advice and recommendations about how best to serve the interests of the curatorial community. Members work on a voluntary basis to further the committee’s objectives with reasonable travel and other expenses being reimbursed by the Association.

We seek additional members who are committed to contributing to the development of the curatorial profession and those working in it. To fairly represent the field and our aspirations for it, we welcome expressions of interest from those who bring different perspectives and lived experience to curatorial work and those who would like to contribute to its growth as a broad, inclusive and diverse profession.

If you would like more information on the committee, please write to us at Please also use this email address to apply to join the committee, briefly outlining your experience and interest in the work of the group, mentioning any particular area of focus you might like to pursue within the committee. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and personal circumstances and encourage applications which will help to diversify the committee in terms of race/ethnicity or class.  May we ask that you also fill out the (voluntary and anonymised) equalities monitoring form (link will open in new window).  We look forward to hearing from you.

Application deadline: 10 November 2021
