DECOLONIZING ART HISTORY

Art History publishes major new intervention in its February 2020 issue

The February 2020 issue of our journal Art History sees the publication of a major new intervention, ‘Decolonizing Art History’.

Co-ordinated by editor Dorothy Price and editorial board member Catherine Grant, it brings together a set of responses to a questionnaire on this important disciplinary topic from thirty art historians, artists, critics and curators. Building on Price’s previous editorials in the journal, ‘Whose Art History?’ and ‘Art History at the Barricades’, it assembles a range of different voices in a vital debate about ongoing concerns and priorities for the field of art history.

Designed as a springboard for further conversation, Dorothy Price encouraged as many people as possible to join the conversation via social media: “this has to be a collective endeavour if we want to enact any real change to the way our discipline is structured, researched, taught and learned for future generations.” You too can join the discussion via social media using #DecolonizingArtHistory.

‘Decolonizing Art History’ is free to download so that it can be read and shared as widely as possible.
