Our members help us champion the value of art history and support our efforts to bring people together to share knowledge, inspire new thinking, and advance research.

AAH membership is open to all, wherever you are in the world.

All members receive:

• Access to grants up to £1,000 for research and professional practice.
• Member rates for the AAH annual conference – the 2027 conference takes place on 7-9 April at the University of Exeter.
• Exclusive access to the annual Curatorial Reflections event for curators, exploring new displays of museum collections.
• Reduced-price print and digital subscriptions to Art History journal.
• Members receive a 20% discount on Open Access article processing charges (APCs) for publication in Art History.
• Eligibility to apply to the AAH menteeship programme.

How to join or renew

• Select your membership category.
• New members will need to register and complete the online registration form. Renewing members will need to login to the membership platform.
• Choose a one off payment or subscribe to an annual subscription. Pay by Credit/Debit card (Stripe) or set up a Direct Debit (GoCardless).

Important information:

• Direct Debit: AAH uses GoCardless to process Direct Debit payments on behalf of the AAH. The Direct Debit payment will state ‘GoCardless’ when collected via your bank account. You will receive an email from GoCardless advising you of the date of your first Direct Debit payment.
• Recurring subscription: AAH offers a 10% discount when signing up to a recurring subscription for membership. Membership will renew automatically each year. You will be reminded in advance of payment being collected.
• Student membership: Open to Undergraduate, Masters and Doctoral students. Students benefit from a 10% discount. Please upload a documentation confirming student status during the application process.
• Concessionary membership: A 10% discount is available to anyone with an income of less than £20,000 per year.  Proof of eligibility will need to be provided by you at the time of joining and must be dated within the last six months. E.g. an email from your employer confirming that you earn £20,000 or under or if you are freelance then an email from yourself confirming this.
• CAA membership: Members of College Art Association of America benefit from a 20% discount. Please upload documentation confirming CAA membership status during the application process.
• SSAH membership: Members of the Scottish Society of Art History benefit from a 20% discount. Please upload documentation confirming SSAH membership status during the application process.
• 3-year membership: Three years of membership for the price of two years available for Individual, Student and Concessionary members.
• Institutional membership: Four individuals from a university, museum, gallery, heritage site, auction house, historic house, foundation or publishers may join as a team or department. Each named person of that institution will be a member and is eligible for member benefits.
