CFP: Arris journal (architecture & preservation)
Call for Papers: Articles and Field Notes
Arris, the journal of the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians, is accepting submissions for articles and field notes to be published in upcoming issues. While the journal’s historical focus has been new perspectives on the U.S. South, Arris publishes original scholarship on all aspects of the history of architecture and landscape, with no restrictions as to geography or time period. For the upcoming issue (2027), the journal is particularly interested in trans-Atlantic, trans-Caribbean, and trans-Pacific approaches, and in ways that ecology and climate change are shaping the study and preservation of architectures and terrains.
Articles generally run from 5,000-7,000 words and are blind peer-reviewed. They should demonstrate a command over scholarly literature, research methods, field work (if applicable), and available primary sources of the subject.
Field notes are shorter contributions, approximately 2,500 words in length, and are blind peer-reviewed. These notes discuss significant ongoing field work, archival treasures, or other research of interest to SESAH members. Arris welcomes contributions from archivists, museum professionals, and preservationists discussing current projects and methods.
Only original work neither published previously nor under review for publication elsewhere will be considered.
For the 2027 issue of Arris, the deadline to receive article submissions is October 1, 2026. If an article or field notes essay is accepted, but the issue in progress already has a sufficient number of them, an author may choose to be published in the next issue.
Submissions should follow Arris guidelines.
