Lecturer in Art Market Studies

To expand its successful new postgraduate programme in Art and Business, the Courtauld is seeking to appoint a new permanent member of faculty with expertise in one of two priority areas:

EITHER

Art markets outside Western Europe and the USA

OR

Technological change and innovation in art markets

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from candidates with academic and/or professional specialism in either historical or contemporary art markets and encourage connections and comparisons across different periods and geographies. We are seeking to appoint a colleague whose research and methodological approach will enhance and extend our existing strengths across the faculty.

Permanent | Full-Time | Salary: £52,947

About The Courtauld

The Courtauld is a specialist university and home to the largest community of art historians and conservators in the UK. We advance how people see and understand visual arts through internationally-renowned teaching and research.

Key Responsibilities

  • To play a leading role in the delivery of the Courtauld’s innovative postgraduate Art and Business programme, with a curriculum rooted in advanced research, a critical understanding of the workings of art markets, and a sophisticated engagement with theory and method.
  • To work closely with Courtauld colleagues and our collaborators (including King’s) in delivering the MA in Art and Business.
  • To teach at all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate programme, delivering modules to students, ranging from those who have little or no previous knowledge to advanced research students.
  • To undertake PhD supervision.
  • To provide pastoral care and support to students and to maintain records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
  • To actively pursue outstanding research and grant applications which lead to regular publications and other outputs at the very highest level, and which has a significant impact beyond the academy.
  • To be a member of the Academic Board, the formal academic decision-making body of The Courtauld, and to serve on other committees by election or nomination.
  • To take on key leadership roles in the administration of the History of Art department, and academic governance of the Courtauld, as required.
  • To undertake appropriate training as part of continuing professional development, including a higher education teaching qualification.
  • To actively promote the interests of The Courtauld as a whole and its future wellbeing by participation in institutional activities, including support for Advancement and fundraising activities.
