Art Market Steering Group

The Art Market Steering Group assists the Association in helping to raise awareness of career opportunities in the art trade and to facilitate entry into it. The focus of the Group’s work is on pre-university students, undergraduate students and those interested in making a career transition into the commercial art sector.

This initiative reflects the Association’s broader commitment to support diverse career pathways in art history, and through the work of the Steering Group, we aim to reinforce links between art history and the art market. Among other things, this will entail creating opportunities for mentoring, networking and knowledge exchange.

In summary, the group’s objectives are to:

– build connections between art history and the art market.
– support those seeking careers in the art market.
– promote awareness of the art market as a vital part of the art historical landscape.

Representing a range of perspectives across the art market, members of the Steering Group advise the Association on a voluntary basis and lead on projects and events. The group meets regularly online and collaborates with others across the field through focused initiatives and working groups. We are grateful to our volunteer advisers for their insight, experience and dedication.

If you are interested in joining the group, or would like to propose an initiative, please email  info@forarthistory.org.uk. We would be pleased to hear from you.

Internships can be a great way to gain experience in your chosen sector, look at our guide for finding internships in the art world.
