Art Decades – Music at the Movies

  • Region: South East
  • Type: Talk
  • Cost: Free

The latest in the series of lectures on the crossover between music and art explores the representation of artists on the big screen. Music at the Movies passes mostly over rock iconography and looks at the cinéma-vérité approach, exemplified by directors such as Tony Palmer who moved between grimly authentic portrayals of rock and pop musicians at work and some of Fine Art figurehead. Comparisons are also drawn between film directors’ approaches to artists such as Pollock and Van Gogh (and more), showing how, ironically, a kind of pop iconography exists alongside unflinching realism. Art Decades always includes music, images and ideas, comprising archive footage, audio clips, slides and free-ranging discussion to give a 360° view of the subject.
