The LondonMet Writing Studio: Building Communities of Academic Writing Practice
The LondonMet Writing Studio is a pilot project set up in October 2024 by Emma Davenport, Head of Student Experience and Academic Outcomes for the School of Architecture, Art and Design at London Metropolitan University. By adapting the writing as social process approach pioneered by Professor Rowena Murray, as well as art and design pedagogy, the LondonMet Writing Studio offers a weekly online place for writing to everyone at the university.
Structured writing groups are known to address barriers to productive academic writing, enabling staff and students to develop more sustainable writing habits through a community of practice. This in person seminar is an opportunity to hear directly from Professor Rowena Murray about structured writing groups, to consider how these could be embedded in a range of teaching, learning and research contexts and share reflections on the LondonMet Writing Studio pilot project. Refreshments will be provided but places are limited so do book early!
