Autumn SYMPOSIUM

Our Autumn Symposium 2025 on Beyond The Visual: Full Body in British Art History – Past, Present and Future will take place at 70 Cowcross Street on 7 October.

The Association for Art History’s Autumn Symposium is a two-day annual conference that highlights current doctoral and early career research from around the world. The Autumn Symposium takes place in early June and has a different theme each year. It is an opportunity for PhD students and early career researchers who are engaged with art, art history or visual culture to present their research and meet other students and academics with a similar research interest.

The Association has been running the Autumn Symposium for over twenty years. It hosts a broad range of research sessions and papers and usually includes two keynote lectures, curator-led tours and a conference dinner. The Autumn Symposium is open to all. Members of the Association receive a discount to attend but you do not need to be a member to propose a paper or attend the event.

The Autumn Symposium attracts around 70 delegates, many of who are doing Phds (including practice-based phds) or have completed their phds within the last five years. It’s an opportunity for doctoral and early career researchers to present, but also an opportunity engage with new, international research about art, art history and visual culture.

The Autumn Symposium is organised and programmed with our DECR Committee.
